LS Series Laser Sensors

Digital Laser Sensor

Digital Laser Sensor The LS series of laser sensors provides stable sensing for all of your high-precision, long-range application needs. With 6 different sensing heads to choose from, wide beam (200mm), as well as tight beam spot (0.3mm) versions are available for use in a wide array or applications. FDA approved, class 1 and class 2 lasers are available. The coaxial retro-reflective long range sensing head provides sensing at up to 30-meter distances. With the LS series, SUNX has focused their design efforts on creating the most user-friendly laser sensor on the market. To achieve this, four main focal points were addressed:

Easy Installation

The sensor heads of the LS series are designed to be approximately the same size as a general-purpose photoelectric sensor. The mounting method and pitch (25.4mm) have been carried over as well to allow the LS heads to use existing mounting brackets when replacing a photoelectric sensor with a laser sensor. Thus, assorted mounting brackets are available and are identical to those offered for our photoelectric sensors.

Easy Adjustment

Adjustments to the laser beam spot are made simple with a multi-turn trim pot on the rear of the diffuse reflective sensor heads. This allows for on line optimization of the laser beam to best fit the size of the part/feature the user is sensing.

Easy Operation

The LS series was designed around the popular features of the FX-300 series fiber amplifier. All amplifiers offer two independent transistor outputs (either NPN or PNP). A dual digital display allows for easy determination of the incident value as well as the threshold value at the same time. With a maximum display value of 9999, the LS is stable even at close range, or with a high reflectance target. Also, the incorporation of a user-friendly jog-dial simplifies operation and maintenance. Beginners and advanced users alike will benefit from the intuitive programming and operation, thus, keeping the learning curve to a minimum.

  • Mode NAVI: Six easy-to-see indicators surround the main display allowing quick and easy confirmation of the operating mode, as well as easy navigation through mode settings.
  • Key Lock Function: The key lock function is a very useful feature in avoiding accidental changes to the sensor settings. The jog switch as well as the mode button is disabled to prevent any unwanted modifications.
  • Simple Wiring: Quick connection cables enable wiring reductions be allowing up to 16 sensor to be connected to each other. Up to four sensors can be combined with interference prevention while at work in close proximity with each other. In addition, the LS series can also be connected to the FX-300 series fiber optic sensor.
  • External Input: The built-in cable type amplifier, LS-401(P)-C2, is equipped with external input wiring that allows for external teaching as well as laser emission cutoff functions to be carried out remotely.

High Performance

The functions built in to the LS series contribute to its high-performance status. An integrated M.G.S. function allows for the user to adjust the receiving sensitivity to one of three levels based on the reflectivity or transparency of the target object. In addition, three specialized sensing modes have been integrated to make complex sensing methods simple:

  • Hysteresis Mode: Allows adjustment of the hystersis value that assists in stable sensing of uneven or rough parts.
  • Window Comparator Mode: Utilizes two threshold values to determine if a part is within a high and low limit.
  • Differential Sensing Mode: Will detect only sharp changes in the incident light level. This is useful when the light output is slowly being hindered by dust build-up on the sensor head.
